On Monday, Nov. 5, Sparta’s literary/arts magazine, Beginnings, hosted the school year’s first of many Open Mic Nights in the MRC. Students were invited to sing, dance, and perform monologues, skits, or poetry- topped off with a complimentary ice cream bar.

Shacapella opened the night with a stunning performance of “This Is Me” from The Greatest Showman.

Next was a performance of “Titanium” by Sparta’s Women’s Choir and a traditional Russian song by Sparta Russian students, directly translated into “Moscow Nights.”

Following a series of musical performances (groups, duets, and solos), students performed skits and poetry they wrote either in their English/Creative Writing classes or on their own time.

The audience enjoys the performances and readings over some ice cream.

It was immensely inspiring to see classmates share their work in front of their peers. Beginnings plans to host more Open Mic nights over the course of the year, creating an excellent personal forum for student artists.
